The Biosafety Training Institute will sell products and services to you through the bti.ed.ac.uk website subject to the terms and conditions set out below. Please read these conditions carefully before using this website. By using the bti.ed.ac.uk website you signify your agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
Bookings – Contract of Sale
When you make a booking through the booking form on bti.ed.ac.uk, you will be sent an e-mail confirming receipt of your booking request. Your booking represents an offer to us to purchase, which is accepted by us when we send an e-mail confirmation to you to confirm the course booking. It is essential that you provide us with a current e-mail address, which can be used to communicate with you on any matters relating to your booking. It is your responsibility to advise us of any changes to your email address or other contact details.
Bookings – Subject to Confirmation
Bookings are Subject to Confirmation so there is a chance that your booking may not be successful, particularly if the course date is very near. Should your initial booking be unsuccessful we will, wherever possible, offer an alternative to best match your requirements, but you are not obliged to accept an alternative.
On confirmation of the booking, a link to The University of Edinburgh’s electronic payment system, EPay, will be sent to the delegate within 7 days. Payment via this online system is the preferred payment option. All bookings made from delegates outside the UK must be paid for by credit or debit card. All electronic payments must be made, in full, 30 days (or as soon as possible) prior to the start of the course.
If you choose to pay by Invoice, we require the delegate (or a representative of the delegate) to provide a Purchase Order within 7 working days, to allow for the Invoice to be prepared. The Invoice is for immediate payment and will need to be paid in full within 30 days of receipt or before the start of the course (whichever is sooner).
Making the payment to the Biosafety Training Institute by the deadline date is your responsibility. If payment is not received and these conditions are not met, the Biosafety Training Institute reserves the right to cancel the place on the course and you will be liable for cancellation fees as set out in the table in the section below and any additional costs incurred by the Biosafety Training Institute for this cancellation.
Cancellations, Reschedules and Course Transfer Policy
Although rare, from time to time the Biosafety Training Institute may need to reschedule courses. Should a training course be rescheduled for any reason you will be offered an alternative date to attend the course. If this is not acceptable to you, you may be fully reimbursed to the full value of course cost. This is the full extent of the liability, which Biosafety Training Institute has for any indirect, incidental, punitive, special or consequential losses or damages arising from rescheduled courses.
If you wish to cancel a course booking you must notify us in writing via email to bti@ed.ac.uk. Course cancellations are subject to administration fees in accordance with following table of charges.
No. of Days Before Course Start Date | Course Cancellations |
More than 60 days | No charge |
Between 6 and 59 days | 50% of course fees |
5 or fewer working days | Full course fees |
Any course transfer must be requested to the Biosafety Training Institute at least 10 days before the course is due to start. Delegates may transfer to another course free of charge for one occasion only. Should a further transfer be required, the delegate will be subject to a £50 administration fee.
Course and Event Information
All of the teaching information and documentation provided online are ©Biosafety Training Institute (BTI). It is intended for the sole use of the delegate who has completed the Biosafety Practitioner Level 1 course only. It may not be copied, distributed or used in any other training.
Course start times will be confirmed in joining instructions sent by the Biosafety Training Institute.
Course Completion
To complete the course successfully, each delegate must complete every aspect of the course and pass all of the assessments within the course deadlines. A minimum of 50% must be scored in all assessments and must result in a minimum score of 60% for the whole course. All elements of the course are reviewed by the BTI Exam Board and if deemed appropriate, delegates who narrowly fail one or more assessments, may be given a further opportunity to resit the relevant assessment(s). Failure to accept this opportunity or to not complete the whole course successfully will result in the delegate not passing the course. Candidates who have not completed the course or have completed the course but failed to achieve a pass will not be refunded.
